Your next chapter
Build deeper. Think system-wide.
A practical route from P&C commissioning to protection design, power-system studies and OT security. Three years. One connected roadmap.
Starting point · Module 01
Know what the relay sees.
Start with CT ratios, residual current and the source-to-trip path. Then build the transformer protection depth you need for T60 work.
600/5 CT · 180 A primaryI secondary = 180 ÷ 120 = 1.50 A

Busy week? Use four hours: 90 min power, 60 min cyber and 90 min project work.
The learning standard
Explain the fault. Derive the expected result. Trace the implementation. Design a discriminating test. Defend the conclusion.

Four decisions a relay actually makes
Not a catalogue. The quantity each function is looking at, and what “operate” means in the yard.

Impedance is a stand-in for location.
The relay forms Z from voltage and current and asks whether that point sits inside a reach. Zone 1 covers the part of the line it may trip without waiting. Zone 2 looks past the remote bus, on a timer, so it can back up the next section without racing it.
